Check out the blog following my latest project!
Working hard to make your life easier.

This page provides links to a world wide web version of the introduction to my PhD thesis (School of Chemistry, University of Birmingham, UK) as well as some other information. The main body of text is split between several pages to ease downloading, and is supported by diagrams, and references (around 150 refs, found in Section 8).

In addition to the review, this page gives some colour slides that I have used in lectures, and a number of links to internet pages with similar interests. All the information given is correct to the best of my knowledge, however mistakes, inaccuracies, and inconsistancies can occur, so I would welcome any constructive comments, which I will act on as quickly as possible. In fact there are some minor errors that I am already aware of.

An extensive review was later written based on this treatise (OA Matthews, AN Shipway, JF Stoddart, Prog. Polym. Sci. 1998, 1-56), which surpasses it in all aspects. If you are unable to obtain a copy of this paper, you may try to contact me for a reprint.

But really, by now there are some much more up-to-date academic reviews available.

Dendrimer Diagrams in Full Colour (ca. 20 K each):
What is a dendrimer? A schematic diagram of the important points.
An example of how a Dendrimer catalyst might be encouraged to work.
The Construction of dendrimers 1. Convergent and Divergent growth.
The construction of dendrimers 2. Double exponential and controlled growth.

Links to other Dendrimer Pages:

Other links to dendrimer-related pages are given here: Of particular interest from a general point of view are the Dendrimer Who's Who, a C&EN electronic review, the tremendous dendrimer resource of the Newkome group at the Center for Molecular Design and Recognition, and perhaps Gavin Kirton's Home Page. Also, don't forget to check out links about molecular modelling and other stuff. One more thing... My new project designed to make your life easier by helping make quick calculations is waiting for you to take a look and spread the word. It's right here at calctool.org.
